Professional Code of Conduct

It is important when hiring a personal trainer, or any other wellness or health professional, that a code of conduct is established between the client and the professional. In home personal training gives you the freedom of less wasted time, less distractions in the pursuit of fitness goals, and an opportunity to avoid expensive gym fees. However, lack of professionalism on the part of the trainer could lead some potential clients to have reservations about hiring an in home trainer. Professional misconduct on the part of a trainer, or participant in a group setting, should not be tolerated. Professional misconduct could be mishandling of the clients personal information, misleading business practices, inappropriate physical contact, and sexual or verbal harassment. As your in home trainer, I will establish a professional code of conduct that ensures the client's safety, comfort level, and privacy. These concerns should also be addressed in a group setting, or gym setting, but due to the nature of in home personal training these issues are of extreme importance. As your trainer, I will address any concerns in our initial session so that we can establish a professional relationship. I have worked with many clients who will vouch for my professionalism and business ethics and will offer referrals if they are needed. In your search for a trainer I recommend that you make sure the trainer can put these concerns in writing. If you have more reservations I'd recommend doing a background check on the individual you consider to hire as your in home trainer.
Thank You,
Tom Pollard, NSCA CPT
